Job summary

American Family Insurance seeks a strategic BI leader to oversee enterprise BI engineering and enablement, ensuring consistent, governed analytics definitions across dashboards, AI-enabled workflows, and decision support.

The role partners with Data Engineering, Governance, Applied AI, and platform teams to drive adoption, trust, and reuse of analytics capabilities, including Tableau and GCP integrations. Madison, WI-based, primarily office-based.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience leading BI, analytics engineering, data enablement, semantic-layer, metrics-layer, metadata/lineage, or data product enablement teams.
• Experience with BI platforms, governed metrics, semantic modeling, metadata, lineage, data governance, and analytics adoption.
• Demonstrated ability to connect technical data models to business meaning and decision-making.
• Experience reducing metric inconsistency and improving trust in enterprise reporting and analytics.
• Familiarity with semantic layers, metrics layers, knowledge catalogs, metadata, lineage, and governed business definitions to support AI/copilots/workflows.
• Experience working across IT and business domains including Data Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, Governance, and Digital Services.

Responsibilities

• Lead shared metrics enablement and adoption across the enterprise.
• Enable AI-consumable BI and semantic foundations with governance.
• Oversee BI tool administration and adoption practices across teams.
• Enable semantic and knowledge-layer usage connecting data assets to business meaning.
• Govern data layer usage for BI and analytics to reduce metric drift and fragmentation.
• Advance AI-ready analytics foundations supporting human and AI decisions.
• Assess readiness for AI-enabled analytics and identify gaps.
• Manage BI and analytics platform partnerships (Tableau, GCP).
• Drive business enablement and adoption of trusted analytics patterns.
• Lead teams responsible for BI enablement, BI engineering, and tooling consolidation.
