Job summary

Responsibilities

Overview

The Director of Business Intelligence & Analytics is a hands‑on leader responsible for building trusted, scalable, and business‑aligned analytics within a healthcare environment. This role blends BI strategy, technical execution, data governance, and team leadership.

The ideal candidate has deep experience working directly with healthcare data, partnering with clinical, operational, financial, and technology leaders, and building reporting environments that support confident decision‑making.

This leader will oversee data integration, certified datasets, reporting standards, analytical frameworks, and BI delivery while remaining technically engaged in the data. The role requires someone who can translate complex clinical, operational, revenue cycle, and financial information into accurate, actionable insights for business leaders.

Key Responsibilities

• Own enterprise BI strategy, reporting standards, analytics delivery, and data governance practices
• Lead the development of curated datasets, semantic layers, data models, and certified reporting sources
• Work hands‑on with raw healthcare data from EHR, practice management, billing, revenue cycle, operational, and financial systems
• Write and optimize advanced SQL for data extraction, transformation, modeling, reconciliation, and validation
• Oversee data ingestion and data exchange processes to ensure information is accurately received, processed, and loaded into centralized analytics environments
• Partner with IT, engineering teams, and third‑party vendors supporting data integrations, ETL, and warehouse environments
• Drive data quality, reconciliation, and root‑cause analysis to resolve discrepancies and improve trust in reporting
• Establish clear data definitions, metric logic, documentation, ownership, and reporting standards
• Ensure traceability of key metrics and reporting outputs back to underlying source data
• Translate complex data into executive dashboards, operational scorecards, performance reporting, and actionable business insights
• Deliver and oversee ad hoc analysis supporting clinical operations, revenue cycle, finance, growth initiatives, and other business priorities
• Partner closely with clinical, operations, finance, revenue cycle, and IT leadership to align analytics priorities with organizational needs
• Support healthcare system integrations, migrations, and BI platform transitions
• Set clear expectations, communicate risks and delivery timelines, and maintain a strong internal customer‑service orientation
• Lead and mentor a small analytics team while remaining technically engaged in high‑impact initiatives

Required Experience

• 7–12 years of progressive experience in business intelligence, analytics, data engineering, or related disciplines
• 2+ years of experience leading analytics teams, functions, or enterprise‑level initiatives
• Healthcare BI experience working with clinical, operational, revenue cycle, or financial data
• Demonstrated experience personally working with raw data, source‑system tables, and data warehouses
• Experience translating business requirements into accurate and usable analytical solutions
• Strong experience with data validation, reconciliation, and troubleshooting
• Experience operating within evolving, integrated, migrated, or post‑migration data environments
• Ability to partner effectively with both executive stakeholders and technical teams

Technical Skills

• Advanced SQL, including complex joins, CTEs, window functions, data validation, and query optimization
• Healthcare data models, source systems, and enterprise data warehouses
• Data modeling, semantic layers, and analytics architecture
• Data integration, ETL, and data ingestion concepts
• BI and visualization platforms such as Power BI, Looker, Tableau, or similar
• Advanced Excel and data validation capabilities
• Strong understanding of data governance, metric definitions, documentation, and reporting controls

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within medical groups, physician practices, specialty healthcare, or multi‑site healthcare organizations
• Experience with EHR and practice management system integrations or migrations
• Experience with revenue cycle, billing, scheduling, encounters, procedures, charges, payments, and related healthcare datasets
• Experience validating vendor‑delivered data feeds, integrations, and reporting solutions
• Experience building certified datasets, semantic layers, reporting standards, or governance frameworks
• Experience supporting BI platform or data warehouse transitions
• Experience developing executive, operational, clinical, or physician‑performance reporting

Leadership Profile

The successful candidate will combine technical depth with strong business partnership skills. This individual should be comfortable getting directly into the data when necessary while also setting direction for the broader BI function.

They should be able to identify data or reporting issues early, investigate underlying causes, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and ensure that analytics products are complete, accurate, and usable before delivery. Strong accountability, communication, and a service‑oriented approach to supporting internal business partners are essential.
