Job summary

Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, NV seeks a personable bartender to provide professional beverage service to guests and cocktail staff. You will input orders in the POS, create checks, and handle cash and card transactions accurately.

Maintain a clean bar, stock ice and beer bins, and assist with inventory. Flexibility for nights, weekends, and holidays is required; must be 21+ and fluent in English.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of serving alcohol with care and menu products.
  • Superior knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding alcohol service.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to operate a glassware washing machine and to refill ice/beer bins and transport kegs.
  • Must be able to communicate in English, both written and oral.
  • Ability to do simple reading, math, writing and complex task completion.
  • Must have coordination, analyzing, precision, following instructions, memorization, problem solving, independent judgment, and decision making.
  • Flexible working all shifts including holidays, nights, and weekend hours.
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and provide proper and professional beverage service to all guests and cocktail staff in a friendly, courteous, and timely manner.
  • Input and ring-up charges for guest’s orders using the POS system. Create a check for each transaction, make and return any change as needed.
  • Always maintain cleanliness and sanitation of guest areas and equipment including removing empty glasses/bottles, cleaning ashtrays, emptying garbage, sweeping/mopping floors, scrubbing/sanitizing equipment, etc.
  • Maintain proper and adequate set-up of bar daily including, before, after and during shift. Refill chemicals, hand soap containers, etc. Refill ice and beer bins, utilizing ice making machines.
  • Listen and respond to guest inquiries using a positive, clear speaking voice. Answer questions and offer assistance to provide guest satisfaction. Relay accurate information to guests regarding hours of operation, Hotel services, directions to local attractions or function rooms, car rentals, airline shuttle service, etc.
  • Make constant contact with both internal and external guests to provide optimal guest service.
  • Make recommendations to guests, offer beverages with ordered meal.
  • Assist the management team with orders and inventory as needed.
  • Any other duties as assigned within the scope of this position.

  • Ability to operate a glassware washing machine and to re-fill ice bins and beer bins, utilize ice machines, change kegs, and transport the empty kegs to designated areas.
  • Candidate must be able to communicate in English, both in written and oral form.
  • Ability to do simple reading, math, writing and complex task completion skills is required.
  • Must have the following skills: coordination, analyzing, precision working, following instructions, memorization, problem solving, independent judgment, and decision making.

  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
  • Must obtain and maintain appropriate licensing with the Alcohol Awareness Card.
EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
  • Previous bartending experience required or any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • While performing the duties of this job, the team members are constantly standing, walking, reaching overhead, bending over, crouching, and kneeling during the duration of their shift.
  • Must be able to constantly push/pull 25lbs or less.
  • The team member will constantly have repetitive use of both hands including light and firm/strong grasping motions. Finger dexterity of both hands will constantly be required.
  • Constant use of vision abilities is required including distance, depth perception, field of vision, and color vision.
