Job summary

HELP of Southern Nevada is seeking a Resident Support Specialist to assist veterans and residents within the BETterment Community at U.S.VETS. You will provide guidance, coordinate services, and help maintain a therapeutic environment while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and funder requirements.

Responsibilities include fostering staff collaboration, conducting life skills activities, and coordinating transportation and community resources.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • One year of experience in social services or related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of empowerment and self-advocacy techniques.
  • Experience with homeless populations or residents preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain harmonious atmosphere by liaising between clinical and program staff.
  • Establish rapport and maintain professional boundaries with clients.
  • Coordinate individual and group services to meet life and recovery goals.
  • Submit incident reports for de-escalation and safety.
  • Ensure program documentation complies with funder regulations and protocols.
  • Participate in case conferences and staff meetings.
  • Facilitate or participate in monthly Town Hall meetings.
  • Maintain confidential client files and ensure proper documentation.
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance and data integrity.
  • Assist in quality management activities and data collection.
  • Maintain time sheets, mileage logs, and service requests.
  • Address client issues promptly to avoid service interruption.
  • Facilitate life skills classes and daily living skills training.
  • Monitor rent/participant fee compliance and housing prioritization.
  • Identify community resources to meet client needs.
  • Transport clients to medical, housing, and other appointments.
  • Coordinate activities and provide information/referral to services.
  • Perform other duties as required.

About the Department

The Workforce Services department provides pre-employment services that empower US Vets who are a part of the BETterment program to enter or re-enter the labor market. This individual is responsible for providing guidance to veterans to achieve their highest level of independence. The BETterment Resident Support Specialist reports directly to the Program Manager of the BETterment Community at U.S.VETS. With supervision, the Resident Support Specialist is responsible for providing guidance and services to Residents to achieve their highest level of independence and assists in the daily implementation of day-to-day basic residential services.

Job Summary
  • Ensures harmonious atmosphere within program by maintaining communication with and being liaison between the clinical staff and program staff and fostering the therapeutic community environment among clients
  • Establishes rapport and maintains a professional relationship and boundaries with clients and potential clients.
  • Coordinates individual and group services that help Residents achieve specific life and recovery goals and support success
  • Responsible for the preventing or de-escalating any problematic behaviors among clients including submitting Incident Reports to the Program Manager or Lead Residents Assistant concerning these events
  • Assists with maintaining compliance with funder regulations and organization protocols in requesting third party documentation and ensuring all program documentation is collected and maintained
  • Participates in case conferences, consultations, and staffing with appropriate staff.
  • Facilitates and/or participates in monthly Town Hall meetings.
  • Assists Case Managers in maintaining confidential client files in a professional and timely manner ensuring all forms are the most recently revised versions and in compliance with organization standards; all required documents are present, complete, signed by the client and staff as applicable; and documents are placed in the correct order according to organization standards
  • Maintains confidentiality in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
  • Assists in quality management activities, data collection, and preparing reports
  • Attends scheduled team meetings and trainings
  • Maintains and submits time sheets, mileage logs, supportive service requests, and other required documentation accurately and in a timely fashion
  • Responsible for addressing client issues timely to ensure non-interruption of services
  • With supervision, facilitates support groups and life skills classes and assists with teaching daily living skills on an individual level to those with specific needs
  • Assists with monitoring program rent/participant fee compliance to assist clients in prioritizing housing
  • Identifies and utilizes community resources to meet client needs.
  • Transports clients to community medical, housing, errands, and other appointments and accompanies for support as needed
  • Coordinates therapeutic, social/recreational activities and outings
  • Assists with ensuring clients are accounted for daily through contact, bed check, and/or daily sign-in logs
  • Reviews and determines client eligibility for passes and communicates decision to Case Manager consulting as needed
  • Conducts toxicology testing of clients
  • Conducts room checks/inspections to ensure health and welfare of clients
  • Encourages and coordinates client participation in program activities based on the client's program track/model and goals
  • Maintain and post calendar monthly of meaningful activities for clients to include at least 2 activities/classes per week and a monthly Town Hall meeting
  • Facilitate two shuttle van runs per week to the grocery store
  • Coordinates services and provides information and referral to both U.S.VETS services/programs and resources in the general community
  • Performs other duties as required.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Required
  • One year of experience in social services or related field preferred
  • Knowledge of empowerment and self-advocacy techniques
  • Experience working with homeless and/or Residents preferred
  • Experience facilitating support groups preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Professional manner and appearance

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse group of clients, staff, and community members
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel), and ability to use client tracking databases and electronic case records
  • Valid driver's license required. Must meet company insurance requirements and complete a provided driver training course
