Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking a BESS Commissioning Manager for a 1-year, remote contract with up to 25% travel to lead testing and commissioning of Battery Energy Storage Systems and solar‑coupled power plants, reporting to the Senior Cx Project Manager.

You will supervise safety, startup, testing, and performance evaluation, coordinate with SCADA, PPA and GIA testing teams, and develop commissioning schedules aligned with mechanical completion.

Qualifications

• Battery energy storage systems installation and startup experience.
• Thorough understanding of Li‑Ion batteries as part of ESS and their integration.
• Commissioning process creation.
• Understanding of containerized systems, skids, controllers/SCADA, transformers, and other hardware.
• Thorough understanding of DC systems (0–2000 Vdc) and AC systems (480 V–34.5 kV).
• Experience with control and SCADA systems and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Participates in safety program and audits.
• Support PPA testing with customer.
• Support GIA testing with TO.
• Support ISO testing.
• Manage test energy forecast with the customer.
• Coordinate with SCADA IT/SCADA team and PM to verify functional checks.
• Develop commissioning schedule with SCADA integrator based on mechanical completion.
• Execute site acceptance testing with SCADA integrator and commissioning manager.
• Support CEWIS checks with ROCC alarm checks/PGD.
• Perform OEM testing.
• Perform plant balancing and capacity testing.
• Notify AVR/AGC and provide support as needed.
• Review performance data for deficiencies.

About the role

We are looking for a BESS Commissioning Manager for a 1‑year W‑2 contract assignment. The role is remote with occasional travel up to 25% of the time. The primary responsibilities include plant testing, performance testing, ISO/GIA/PPA testing, and startup of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and solar‑coupled power systems, acting as the owner’s representative for compliance, status reporting, safety, startup, commissioning, and testing. The position reports to the Client Senior Cx Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Participates in safety program and audits
• Support PPA Testing with customer
• Support GIA Testing with TO
• Support ISO testing
• Manage test energy forecast with the customer
• Support ICCP IT SCADA Team and SCADA PM/Lead with functional checks
• Work with SCADA integrator and execution commissioning project manager to develop a commissioning schedule based on mechanical completion
• Work with SCADA integrator and commissioning manager to execute site acceptance testing
• Support CEWIS critical point checkout with ROCC alarm checks/PGD
• Perform OEM testing
• Perform plant balancing
• Perform capacity testing
• Perform notification of AVR/AGC and support
• Review performance data for deficiencies

Qualifications

• Experience with control and SCADA systems and troubleshooting

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to see color to discern color‑coded HMI controls
• Prolonged periods of screen time and sitting
• Will operate a motor vehicle for purposes of commuting between two working locations
