Job summary

Gilchrist Inova, serving Northern VA, seeks a Bereavement Counselor to join the Interdisciplinary Team and provide support to families and community members. The role emphasizes compassionate bereavement care across settings, with opportunities for outreach and education.

The position requires a Master’s in Social Work or related field, LGSW/LMSW/LGPC, and 3–5 years of counseling experience. Collaboration with IDT and commitment to hospice values are essential.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field.
• Experience: 3–5 years in counseling or related field preferred.
• Public speaking experience in variety settings.
• Experience facilitating support groups.
• English proficiency for professional documentation and correspondence.

Responsibilities

• Provide bereavement support and counseling within care plan timeframes.
• Document ongoing therapeutic assessments of bereavement needs.
• Provide short-term crisis intervention for grief and loss.
• Lead community bereavement events and outreach as requested.
• Refer families to appropriate community resources and facilitate psychoeducational groups.
