Job description

General Purpose

Hiring salary is dependent upon experience. The hiring range is $31.7078 - 35.2309 / hourly. Bilingual In Spanish Preferred.

Benefits are more than programs and paperwork; they are an important part of how employees and their families feel supported throughout their journey with an organization.

The City is seeking a Benefits Coordinator who enjoys helping people, solving problems, and creating positive employee experiences. In this highly visible and employee-facing role, you will serve as a trusted resource for employees navigating their benefits, helping them understand their options, answering questions, resolving concerns, and connecting them with the resources they need. From welcoming new employees during orientation to providing ongoing support through life events and annual enrollment, you will have an opportunity to make benefits easier to understand and more accessible to employees across the organization.

Working closely with the Benefits and Leave Manager, you will also help keep the City's benefits and wellness programs moving forward behind the scenes. You will coordinate benefit enrollments and changes, partner with vendors, maintain accurate information across HR and benefit systems, develop employee communications, and support regulatory reporting and administrative processes. You will also play an active role in the City's wellness initiatives by coordinating events, facilitating wellness activities, tracking incentives, and helping bring the annual Benefits and Wellness Fair to life.

We care about our employees and offer a generous benefits package: Health & wellness benefits, 6% retirement contribution match and 3% 457 Deferred Compensation match, general leave, work/life balance, and more.

We are an equal-opportunity employer and welcome applicants from all backgrounds and experiences. We believe that a diverse and inclusive workforce is essential to our success, and we are committed to creating a supportive and welcoming work environment for all of our employees.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED. A minimum of three years of benefits administration experience. Demonstrated competence with customer service and Microsoft Office applications, and experience with HRIS systems, are required.

An equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Paid Time-off Benefits
  • Holidays: 12 paid holidays each year with the addition of an 8-hour Floating Holiday (in addition to the Floating Holiday that can be earned by participating in the Wellness Program).
  • General Leave: Employees receive a General Leave bank when they’re hired, prorated based on their start date. General leave can be used for vacation, sick time, personal needs, caregiving, school activities, holidays not observed by the City, and other approved reasons in line with Colorado’s Healthy Families and Workplaces Act.
  • Other Paid Time Off: Jury Duty, Injury Leave, and Military Leave are also available to employees.
Additional Benefits
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): We provide a confidential Employee Assistance Program to help support you and your family on any issue of concern. Eight private counseling sessions are available on a range of needs including, but not limited to marital issues, parenting concerns, grief counseling, supervisor issues, and drug and alcohol abuse.
  • Tuition Reimbursement: The City provides a tuition reimbursement program that reimburses qualified educational expenses.
  • Eligibility for Pay Increases: Employees are eligible for a pay increase during their annual appraisal following a successful evaluation. Pay increases do not come at the time of the six-month introductory evaluation.
  • Personal Computer Employee Purchase Program: To encourage the development of employee computer skills, the City offers an interest-free loan to you for the purchase of computer hardware (including a Desktop or Laptop) and software. The employee must have successfully completed their 6-month Introductory Period for eligibility.
  • Recreation Center Membership: Employees and family members are eligible for a membership to the Commerce City Recreation Center for $5.00 per person per year.
