DataOne is seeking a Benefits and Learning & Development Specialist to administer benefits programs and coordinate training for all employees. You will serve as the SME for health, life, and leave, while also managing training onboarding, LMS records, and reporting for leadership.

The role requires 2–4+ years in benefits or HR coordination, a Bachelor’s in HR/Business or equivalent, and strong organizational and communication skills. This on-site position reports to HR Manager in New Jersey.

Benefits and Learning & Development (L&D) Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY

The Benefits and Learning & Development (L&D) Specialist is responsible for administering the organization’s employee benefits programs and coordinating training and development initiatives for new and existing employees. This role serves as the primary subject‑matter expert on health insurance, life insurance, and leave administration, while also owning the tracking, scheduling, and reporting of employee training and onboarding programs. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, highly organized, and able to balance compliance‑driven benefits work with employee‑facing training coordination.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Benefits Administration
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and subject‑matter expert for employee benefits, including health insurance, dental and vision, and life insurance plans.
  • Administer day‑to‑day benefits operations: enrollments, changes, terminations, and qualifying life event updates.
  • Manage leave administration programs, including FMLA, state leave laws, short‑and‑long‑term disability, and personal/medical leave requests.
  • Serve as liaison between employees and insurance carriers/brokers to resolve claims, billing, and eligibility issues.
  • Lead annual open enrollment: coordinate communications, employee meetings, system updates, and vendor deadlines.
  • Ensure benefits programs comply with applicable federal and state regulations (ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA).
  • Reconcile monthly benefits invoices and partner with Payroll/Finance on deduction accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate benefits records in the HRIS and prepare reports for leadership as needed.
  • Respond to employee questions regarding plan coverage, costs, and procedures with clear, timely guidance.
Learning & Development / Training Coordination
  • Track and maintain training records for all new hires and existing employees, ensuring completion of required onboarding and compliance training.
  • Coordinate and schedule new‑hire onboarding sessions, orientation materials, and training timelines.
  • Monitor training compliance deadlines (e.g., safety, harassment prevention, role‑specific certifications) and follow up on outstanding requirements.
  • Maintain and update the Learning Management System (LMS) or training tracker, including enrollment, completion status, and reporting.
  • Partner with department managers to identify ongoing training needs and coordinate delivery of relevant programs.
  • Assist in developing or sourcing training materials, job aids, and onboarding documentation.
  • Generate regular reports on training completion rates and flag gaps to HR leadership.
  • Support employee development initiatives, including tracking certifications, licenses, and renewal deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2–4+ years of experience in benefits administration/general administration, HR generalist work, or training coordination.
  • Working knowledge of health, dental, vision, and life insurance plan administration.
  • Familiarity with leave of absence laws and processes (FMLA, ADA, state‑specific leave requirements).
  • Experience using an HRIS and/or Learning Management System (e.g., Workday, ADP, UKG, Cornerstone, or similar).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a service‑oriented approach to employee inquiries.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive employee data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, particularly spreadsheets and reporting tools.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • PHR, SHRM‑CP, or similar HR certification.
  • Experience with COBRA, ACA reporting, or benefits compliance audits.
  • Prior experience building or administering onboarding/training curricular.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This role is primarily performed in an office setting with regular use of a computer and standard office equipment. Occasional travel between office locations or to training sessions may be required.
