Job summary

Qualifications

Overview

We are hiring a Benefits Administrator to join our team.

The Benefits Administrator position, reporting to the HR Manager, is a subject matter expert in all areas Benefits and guides and consults all stakeholders with benefit related questions and inquiries. The Benefit Administrator tracks, manages, and maximizes the utilization of UHC’s self-insured health plan. The Benefit Administrator continually investigates new benefits programs, improves existing programs and processes, supervises and monitors benefit administration

Responsibilities

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administer and develop a thorough understanding of various employee benefits programs, such as group health, flexible spending accounts, dental and vision, accident and disability, life insurance, voluntary plans, 401(k) and other retirement plan offerings, and wellness benefits.
  • Facilitate Benefits orientations, explain benefits enrollment system, and ensure accurate employee benefit enrollment.
  • Serve as primary contact for plan vendors and third-Party administrators.
  • Review and interpret Summary Plan Descriptions, plan documents, benefit summaries, vendor contracts, and other governing plan material to research and resolve benefit-related questions.
  • Understand how the organization’s HRIS/benefits administration platform communicates with insurance carriers, TPAs, payroll systems, and other benefit vendors.
  • Maintain working knowledge of EDI and eligibility files, including how enrollment and termination information is transmitted between benefit administration system and carriers.
  • Identify, investigate, and assist with resolving EDI discrepancies, enrollment errors, eligibility discrepancies, and carrier transmission failures.
  • Manage and administer benefit premium payment processes for employees on leaves of absence, including tracking employee premium obligations, communicating payment requirements, coordinating collection of missed premiums, and ensuring continued benefit coverage when applicable.
  • Establish benefits strategy and day-to-day operations through in-depth analysis, technical support, project management and relationship building.
  • Counsel employees on plan provisions so they can make informed benefit decisions. This includes all levels of employees including providers and executives.
  • Manage annual open enrollment period and arrange for distribution of materials from carriers, assists with communicating changes to employees, and ensure successful completion of requested enrollment updates and changes within deadlines.
  • Compile information during renewal process of any health, life, voluntary and retirement plans that benefit the company.
  • Make recommendations to CEO regarding changes and updates to the benefits program.
  • Maintain employee benefits filing systems and ensure benefits changes are entered appropriately in payroll system for payroll deduction.
  • Assist employees with health, dental, life, voluntary and other related benefit claims.
  • Verify the calculation of the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies and maintain statistical data relative to premiums, claims and costs. Resolve all levels of administrative problems with stakeholders and carrier representatives.
  • Administer COBRA in conjunction with the Third-Party Administrator.
  • Prepare and set up meetings designed to help employees obtain information and understand the total compensation package.
  • Ensure distribution of required employee notices and updated benefit material as needed.
  • Complete all state and federal reporting requirements for the benefits program.
  • Ensure the benefits program is competitive in the marketplace.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Attends workshops/seminars as necessary to increase skills and knowledge to provide effective care, treatment, and/or leadership.
  • Supports the overall needs of the health center by working flexible or extended hours when necessary.
  • Supports the needs of the health center by traveling to UHC health centers when department need dictate.
  • Demonstrates awareness of, and compliance with, organizational mission and objective of UHC to provide health care access and support services for all members of the community.
  • Other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally either verbally or in writing.
  • Maintains confidentiality and respect for information regarding patients and other team members; abides by UHC Rules of Confidentiality and general HIPAA regulations regarding privacy.

  • Contributes to the team by promoting positive staff interaction, maintains open communication with other programs/departments.
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, or related field required.
  • Experience with benefit administration and self-insured plans required.
  • Professional designations related to Benefits Administration a plus. Prior experience working with payroll processes as they relate to employee benefits, including benefit deductions, employer contributions, and retroactive adjustments.

Travel: is required for this position.

Mandatory attendance on specific days required for Human Resources staff such as New Hire Orientation, All Staff Meetings and other days as outlined.

The hourly wage range that UHC reasonably expects to pay for the position upon hire starts at $35.43 an hour. Our salaries are dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.
