Job summary

Self-Help is seeking a Benefits Administrator in Durham, NC to manage comprehensive employee benefit programs and ensure regulatory compliance. You will coordinate enrollment, work with vendors for retirement services, and maintain accurate records across multiple states.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least five years of progressive benefits administration experience.
  • Experience with HRIS platforms; Workday preferred.
  • Proven project leadership skills and the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.
  • Strong knowledge of benefits laws, regulations, and industry best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain employee benefit programs for assigned employee populations, including multi-state groups.
  • Partner with benefit vendors and internal stakeholders to deliver retirement plan services including annual reviews and 401(k) compliance.
  • Coordinate employee enrollment meetings and develop engaging benefits communications.
  • Maintain accurate benefits records, reconcile deductions and invoices, and prepare reports for stakeholders.
  • Lead or support benefits-related projects, system implementations, and HRIS initiatives.
  • Monitor and interpret applicable federal and state regulations, including ACA and retirement requirements.
  • Coordinate compliance activities and filings, ensuring timely data collection and submission.
  • Participate in strategic benefits planning and design enhancements.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

What You'll Do

As our Benefits Administrator, you will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional benefit programs, championing compliance, and ensuring the seamless administration of health benefits, and retirement offerings—including our 401(k) plan.   • Administer and maintain employee benefit programs for assigned employee populations, including multi-state groups.
  • Partner with benefit vendors and internal stakeholders to deliver a full suite of retirement plan services to include retirement conversion, comprehensive annual reviews, employee benefits compliance for health benefits, leave, and retirement programs particularly 401(k).
  • Coordinate employee enrollment meetings and develop engaging benefits communications and educational materials.
  • Maintain accurate benefits records, reconcile employee deductions and vendor invoices, and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead or support benefits-related projects, system implementations, and process improvements, including HRIS initiatives.
  • Monitor and interpret applicable federal and state regulations, including ACA and retirement plan requirements, ensuring ongoing compliance and recommending program enhancements as needed.
  • Coordinate compliance activities and filings, ensuring timely and accurate data collection and submission.
  • Participate in strategic benefits planning and contribute to the design and enhancement of benefit offerings that support our mission and employees.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least five years of progressive benefits administration experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with HRIS platforms; Workday experience is preferred.
  • Experience with supporting retirement plan administration.
  • Proven project leadership skills and the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.
  • Strong knowledge of benefits laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and effectively.
  • A customer-focused mindset with a track record of providing outstanding employee support.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • PHR and/or CEBS certification is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally and work additional hours when business needs require.

Compensation Range

$63,200-94,800

Competitive nonprofit compensation, based on experience, plus a generous benefits package. Compensation ranges for each position are based on local market rates and will be determined by geography, role, and experience.
