Job summary

Self-Help Services Corp in Durham, NC is seeking a Benefits Administrator to deliver comprehensive benefit programs, ensure compliance, and support employees in a mission-driven nonprofit environment.

You will manage multi-state benefits, coordinate enrollment meetings, work with vendors on retirement plans, maintain records, generate reports, and participate in HRIS projects to improve processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least five years of progressive benefits administration experience.
  • Experience with HRIS platforms; Workday preferred.
  • Experience supporting retirement plan administration.
  • Strong knowledge of benefits laws, regulations and best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; customer-focused.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • PHR and/or CEBS certification preferred.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally and work additional hours when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain employee benefit programs for assigned populations, including multi-state groups.
  • Coordinate enrollment meetings and develop benefits communications and educational materials.
  • Maintain benefit records, reconcile deductions and invoices, and prepare reports for stakeholders.
  • Lead or support benefits projects, HRIS initiatives, and process improvements.
  • Monitor and interpret federal and state regulations (ACA, retirement plan requirements) to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Coordinate compliance filings and ensure timely data collection and submission.
  • Participate in strategic benefits planning and contribute to the design and enhancement of benefit offerings.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Job Overview

We are seeking a Benefits Administrator for our Durham, NC team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in delivering exceptional benefits, ensuring compliance, and supporting employees so they can thrive in a mission‑driven environment.

Responsibilities
  • Administer and maintain employee benefit programs for assigned populations, including multi‑state groups.
  • Partner with vendors and internal stakeholders to provide retirement plan services such as conversion, annual reviews, and 401(k) plan administration.
  • Coordinate employee enrollment meetings and develop engaging benefits communications and educational materials.
  • Maintain accurate benefit records, reconcile deductions and invoices, and prepare reports for stakeholders.
  • Lead or support benefits projects, HRIS initiatives, and process improvements.
  • Monitor and interpret federal and state regulations (ACA, retirement plan requirements) to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Coordinate compliance filings and ensure timely data collection and submission.
  • Participate in strategic benefits planning and contribute to the design and enhancement of benefit offerings.

Benefits and Compensation

Compensation Range: $63,200 – $94,800. Competitive nonprofit remuneration based on experience, with a generous benefits package.
