Benefit Programs Specialist II represents the full-performance level in the Benefit Programs Specialist occupational group. Responsibilities include determining and re-determining eligibility for financial assistance, food stamps, medical assistance, and other social services programs.

The work is performed within established policies, procedures and guidelines, but certain aspects of eligibility determination require independent judgment, especially as related to evaluation of social factors

Qualifications

• Interviews applicants for assistance and determines continuing eligibility.
• Calculates eligibility using multiple data sources and guidelines.
• Documents findings and prepares reports with accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Interview applicants to gather necessary information.
• Explain eligibility concepts and program requirements to clients.
• Process applications and determine benefits levels.
• Monitor cases for changes in circumstances and adjust entitlements.
• Maintain case records and communicate with collaborating agencies.
