Job summary

W. Lee Flowers & Co. is seeking a Meat Department team member in Sumter, SC. You will support meat operations, assist guests, and help maintain product quality and compliance daily.

The role requires 18+ years old with 1–3 years meat or supermarket experience, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and strong customer service skills. Training and advancement opportunities are available in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent.
• 1–3 years meat or supermarket experience.
• Must be 18 years old.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs occasionally and 25 lbs constantly.
• Ability to read and understand information and direction.
• Knowledge of meat operations.
• Ability to supervise people, including training and development.
• Demonstrated ability to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements on the job.
• Effective communication, guest service, and selling skills.

Responsibilities

• Follow weekly sales program to attain maximum sales volume.
• Achieve budgeted gross profit figures as established by Meat Merchandising Department.
• Prepare meat records as required by Accounting & Merchandising Departments.
• Follow policies on cutting, weighing, pricing, packaging, and displaying merchandise.
• Unload trucks and maintain backroom storage.
• Maintain coolers and freezers to standard.
• Account for inventory; assist guests and maintain relations.
• Coordinate with Store Manager on schedule and department plans.
• Ensure department runs per company standards and audits.

Responsibilities

• Follow weekly company sales program to attain maximum sales volume.
• Achieve budgeted gross profit figures as established by Meat Merchandising Department.
• Carry out the preparation of all meat records as required by the Accounting & Merchandising Departments.
• Follow all company policies related to cutting, weighing, pricing, packaging, and displaying of merchandise.
• Unload trucks and maintain backroom storage.
• Maintains coolers and freezers to standard.
• Accountable for inventory control.
• Reinforce sanitation, safe food handling practices, security, safety, and company guidelines.
• Assist guests and maintain good customer relations.
• Consult with Store Manager to review meat operations, and advanced planning and scheduling, to ensure company objectives are met.
• Responsible for scheduling of the department.
• Ensures the department is run in compliance with company standards (as measured by ALI audits).
• Ensures direct reports understand expectations for performance, holds them accountable to achieve productivity goals and meets with them to review performance and provide feedback (ongoing and annual performance appraisal).
• Personally responsible for teaching and training departmental staff. Additionally, builds a talent planning bench for the department, including developing and executing development plans for all high-potential and promotable individuals.
• All other tasks as assigned by management.

• Ability to bend, kneel, stand, push/pull stock carts for extended periods of time.
• Meat cutting experience preferred.
