Job summary

Baldwin Supply Company, a long-standing manufacturing supplier, is seeking a production technician to fabricate belting and support site installations across diverse industries. You will read work orders and drawings, use hand tools and heavy equipment, and ensure safety and quality standards are met.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and drawings.
• Read a ruler in standard and metric; perform additive/subtractive math and basic geometry.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team with strong safety focus.
• OSHA forklift license or ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Perform production work by reading and interpreting work orders and drawings per safety guidelines.
• Fabrication: cut belts, operate slitters, hand slit, square ends, and prepare for V-guides, cleats and sidewall.
• Installation: assist with on-site rubber belting installation and on-site safety adherence.
• Operate equipment such as HR Welder, Fork Lift, Soldering Guns, Table Saw, Lathe; inspect belts/hoses for quality.
• Attend safety trainings and maintain organized tools and workspace.

Job Summary:

This position performs various tasks involved in the production of fabricated belting for a variety of industries which would include using hand tools, blueprints and equipment to complete work orders. The position requires basic math skills for the ability to read and understand a tape measuring.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff.
• Oversees the daily workload of the department.
• Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
• Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Job Responsibilities:

Perform all necessary production work by reading, interpreting work orders and drawings by adhering to all safety guidelines in order to:

Fabrication:

• Understand how to cut regular and step cut rolls per cut sheet provided
• Operate large slitters to accurately slit belts to the desired width and length
• Hand slit belts as needed
• Square ends of belt and cut belts to proper length for further processing
• Understand the various types of glues and cleaners to use for the type of belt and application being used
• Fit Belt ends with adhesive, tie gum and cloth
• Set up, prepare, and layout the belt for applying v-guides, cleats and sidewall
• Measure, cut, couple and coil hoses to customer specification and understand the various types of hoses and their uses.
• Inspect belts and hoses to ensure they meet quality standards

Installation:

• Basic installation of rubber belting including use of machine and hand tools on customer site.
• Work with installation lead to ensure job meet schedule
• Provide effective and timely onsite support for customers
• Knowledge and adherence to onsite safety policies and procedures
• Communicate well internally and externally about the status of all jobs
• Keep tools and hardware storage area organized

Additional functions:

• Check both incoming and outgoing shipments for accuracy and damage by reporting any abnormalities to supervisor
• Load or unload trucks as necessary via forklift or other means
• Label and put away incoming inventory- cycle counting
• Attend safety, training and other informational meetings
• Maintain a clean and organized work area
• Ability to work independently
• Basic math skills to use, read and understand a tape measure
• On-call for weekends and willing to put in extra hours if needed
• Off-site/work travel to customer sites

Requirements

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma/equivalent
• Sufficient knowledge or experience to perform computer entries
• Industrial math and measuring to read and understand work orders and prints.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and drawings. Willingness to ask questions and communicate openly with superiors and peers.
• MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to read a ruler in standard and metric. Ability to add and subtract fractions and decimals and convert between the two. Ability to apply basic Geometry. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and recognize non-conformances. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrams or schedule form.
• OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must work individually as well as part of a team to provide a high level of efficiency and productivity, while not sacrificing quality and safety. Must be able to set up and operate mechanical equipment as well as use power tools and hand tools safely. Must be able to attain an OSHA-certified forklift license.

Physical Requirements / Work Conditions:

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, use his/her hands with strength, coordination and precision and see details at close range. The employee is regularly required to bend, kneeling on multiple surfaces, reach, push, pull, climb, talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and infrequently lift up to 70 pounds.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will utilize all required personal protective equipment and will occasionally work in hot, somewhat noisy conditions where material particles from grinding and other operations may occasionally be present. Occasional smell of glue fumes.
