Job summary

POWER is a mission-driven nonprofit delivering trauma-informed treatment and recovery support for women facing addiction and co-occurring disorders. The Behavioral Health Technician supports clients early in recovery by maintaining a safe, structured residential environment and collaborating with clinical staff.

You will monitor behavior, assist with milieu management, engage clients in programming, and help ensure smooth medication line operations and thorough documentation in a busy 24/7

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or residential care.
  • Driver's license and auto insurance.
  • Clearances Act 73, 33 and 34.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Strong interpersonal and observation skills.
  • Ability to remain calm in high-stress or crisis situations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor client behavior, safety, and well-being throughout the shift.
  • Conduct regular rounds, bed checks, and wellness observations.
  • Respond to incidents and crises using calm, trauma-informed approaches.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and structured residential environment.
  • Support daily routines including wake-up, meals, groups, and transitions.
  • Reinforce program expectations, rules, and boundaries consistently.
  • De-escalate conflicts and redirect behavior with professionalism and care.
  • Build supportive, respectful relationships with clients.
  • Encourage participation in programming and recovery activities.
  • Model healthy behaviors and support coping skill development.
  • Lead or co-facilitate structured activities such as Client Handbook Learning Group and wellness activities.
  • Assist with coordination of medication line under nursing supervision.
  • Accurately document client interactions, behaviors, and incidents.

What You'll Do
Client Support & Safety
  • Monitor client behavior, safety, and well-being throughout the shift
  • Conduct regular rounds, bed checks, and wellness observations
  • Respond to incidents and crises using calm, trauma-informed approaches
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and structured residential environment
Milieu Management
  • Support daily routines including wake-up, meals, groups, and transitions
  • Reinforce program expectations, rules, and boundaries consistently
  • De-escalate conflicts and redirect behavior with professionalism and care
Client Engagement
  • Build supportive, respectful relationships with clients
  • Encourage participation in programming and recovery activities
  • Model healthy behaviors and support coping skill development
Group Facilitation
  • Lead or co-facilitate structured activities such as:
  • Client Handbook Learning Group
  • Recreational or wellness activities
Medication Line Support
  • Assist with coordination of medication line under nursing supervision
  • Ensure orderly and timely flow of clients during medication administration
Documentation & Communication
  • Accurately document client interactions, behaviors, and incidents
  • Communicate key observations and concerns to clinical and supervisory staff
  • Participate in shift handoffs to ensure continuity of care
What You Bring
Required
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years' experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or residential care
  • Driver's license
  • Motor vehicle Insurance
  • Act 73, 33 and 34 clearances
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, overnight shifts, and holidays
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and observation skills
  • Ability to remain calm and responsive in high-stress or crisis situations
Preferred
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • CRS certification
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care and recovery principles

Work Schedule & Environment
  • 24/7 residential treatment environment, onsite
  • Day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts required
  • Some transportation of clients to appointments and meetings.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Active role requiring standing, walking, and engagement throughout the shift
  • Ability to safely respond to and manage crisis situations (per training and policy)
  • Work involves frequent interaction in a residential treatment setting
