Job summary

Duke University Health System is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician for the Float Pool to provide patient care across Duke University Hospital and Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, NC.

Responsibilities include observation, assisting with activities of daily living, safety monitoring, and coordinating with the care team to support treatment plans while adhering to infection control and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1 year of experience working with patients with substance abuse, mental health, dementia, or disability preferred.
• Nurse Aide Registry of North Carolina.
• Substance Abuse Counselor certification in NC; EMT certification in NC; Behavioral Health Technician certification.
• BCLS certification must be maintained; CPI certification strongly preferred.
• Meet DUHS credential for glucose analysis and related specimen procedures within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Observe patients and report significant changes to supervising RN.
• Interact with patients one-to-one, provide activities, reinforce patient teaching.
• Assist with activities of daily living: bathing, hygiene, feeding, dressing.
• Assist with position changes, ROM exercises, transfers and walking.
• Provide care and monitoring of patients in seclusion or restraint as needed.
• Ensure patient safety and compliance with safety and infection control guidelines.
• Participate in staff discussions to coordinate and improve patient care.
• Organize recreational activities and help plan treatment utilization with patients.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment; restock and tidy patient rooms.
