Job summary

Duke Health in Durham, North Carolina seeks a Behavioral Health Technician to support the Emergency Department at Duke Regional Hospital. The role involves direct patient care for individuals with psychiatric disorders, observation, and assisting with activities of daily living.

You'll work 3-12 hour shifts, provide safety and de-escalation assistance, document patient status, and collaborate with RNs and other staff to ensure high-quality, compassionate care.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED.
• 1 year of experience with patients with substance abuse, mental health, dementia, or intellectual disability preferred.
• Listing on NC Nurse Aid Registry and relevant NC certifications.

Responsibilities

• Observe and assess patient progress daily and report changes to the RN.
• Interact with patients one-to-one; provide recreational or social activities.
• Assist with activities of daily living (beds, bathing, hygiene, feeding, dressing).
• Assist with positioning, ROM, transfers, and walking.
• Provide care in seclusion or restraint when needed and ensure safety.
• Maintain safety, infection control, and cleanliness of the environment.
• Participate in patient care planning and staff meetings to improve services.
