Department Profile:
The current inpatient Behavioral Health facilities at Duke Williams Unit and Duke Regional just transitioned to a new state-of-the-art facility located on the Duke Regional Campus in early Spring of 2021. The new unit comprises 42 private inpatient rooms. Duke strives to provide experienced and compassionate mental health care to adults 18 years and older through an interdisciplinary approach involving psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, recreational therapists, and clinical social workers.

Behavioral Health Technician - Behavioral Health Inpatient - Duke Regional Hospital

Work Schedule:

Day Shift 7a-7p or Night Shift 7p-7a

Job Summary:

Perform a variety of nonprofessional nursing duties in the direct care of patients under the supervision of an RN/LPN. Perform clerical duties involved in preparing, maintaining, and processing patient, unit, and hospital data and records, including operating the organization's patient care information systems.

Work Performed:

  • Administer treatment and personal care procedures to patients, including feeding, bathing, shaving, changing clothing, cleaning, trimming fingernails, bed-making, assisting with ambulation, enemas, skin care, and bowel and bladder elimination; provide additional care as required to meet patients' personal needs and comfort.
  • Assist medical and nursing personnel in examination, treatment, and care of patients by performing selected patient care tasks under RN/LPN supervision.
  • Record patient data in electronic medical records (EMR) and report any abnormal changes in patient condition to the Nurse.
  • Participate in patient transport.
  • Clean assigned areas; stock and replenish supplies and equipment.
  • Operate the organization's patient care information system, including verifying and inputting orders, assembling and maintaining patient charts, and uploading documents.
  • Use technology to request and coordinate patient transport and communicate with staff.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

  • Listing on the Nurse Aid Registry of North Carolina
  • or Certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor, Emergency Medical Technician, Behavioral Health Technician by recognized agencies in North Carolina
  • If not meeting these, the candidate must start and complete one of these requirements within specified timeframes.
  • BCLS certification must be maintained/completed during the first week of employment; CPI certification is strongly preferred.
