Nursing Care Assistant - Behavioral Health Inpatient - Duke Regional Hospital

Duke University Health System - Duke Regional Hospital seeks to hire a Nursing Care Assistant who will embrace our mission of Advancing Health Together.

Department Profile:
The inpatient Behavioral Health facilities at Duke Williams Unit and Duke Regional transitioned to a new state-of-the-art facility located on the Duke Regional Campus in early Spring 2021. The unit comprises 42 private inpatient rooms. Duke strives to provide experienced and compassionate mental health care to adults 18 years and older through an interdisciplinary team including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, recreational therapists, and social workers.

Work Schedule:

Day Shift 7a-7p or Night Shift 7p-7a

Job Summary:

Perform nonprofessional nursing duties in direct patient care under supervision of an RN/LPN, including clerical tasks related to patient data and records, and operate patient care information systems.

Work Performed:

  • Assist patients with personal care, including feeding, bathing, grooming, and mobility.
  • Support medical and nursing staff in patient examination, treatment, and care.
  • Record patient data in EMR and report changes to nurses.
  • Transport patients as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and stock supplies.
  • Handle clerical tasks related to patient information systems, including verifying and inputting orders, assembling patient charts, and managing documentation.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, visitors, and staff.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:

  • Listing on the Nurse Aid Registry of North Carolina, or
  • Certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor, Emergency Medical Technician, Behavioral Health Technician by recognized agencies, or start the process within 1 year if not met.
  • BCLS certification required by end of orientation; CPI certification preferred.
