Job summary

Tampa General Behavioral Health Hospital is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) II to support patients in a 96-bed inpatient psychiatric setting. The role operates on a night schedule (7:00 PM–7:30 AM) with three 12-hour shifts and rotating weekends, under RN supervision.

Responsibilities include vital signs, documentation, milieu management, group facilitation, crisis intervention, and mentorship of new staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.
• De-escalation certification required within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care tasks delegated by the RN, including taking vital signs, collecting specimens, documenting care, facilitating group education, and monitoring patients.
• Demonstrate milieu management and accompany patients to meals, breaks, off-unit visits, and appointments.
• Report medical or psychiatric changes to the RN and assist with admissions, including belongings inventory, visitation, and vital signs.
• Document property at admission and discharge, conduct safety checks, and promote a clean, therapeutic environment.
• Encourage activities of daily living and facilitate or co-facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups.
• Apply crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques and maintain knowledge of program policies and procedures.
• Provide orientation and mentorship to new staff, serve as a preceptor, and train colleagues on group facilitation and maintaining a therapeutic milieu.
• Assess patient needs related to chemical dependency, and document plans of care from admission through discharge.
• Participate in treatment planning as part of the interdisciplinary team.

What We're Looking For

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required.

Certifications

• CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.
• De-escalation certification required within 30 days of hire.

Experience

• One (1) year of experience in an inpatient psychiatric setting preferred.
• Experience working with psychiatric, dual-diagnosis, chemical dependency, or geriatric patients preferred.
