Behavioral Health Technician

Location: US-TX-Houston

Overview

Cognito LLC, a joint venture with Planned Systems International (PSI), is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician to support the ICE Health Services Corps (IHSC) at the Houston Contract Detention Facility, TX. As a civilian contractor, you will provide high-quality healthcare services to individuals in ICE custody, working within a team of healthcare professionals including USPHS Officers, civil service staff, and contractors. IHSC is responsible for detainee healthcare under ICE and DHS supervision.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

The BHT provides mental health screenings, patient care management, and facilitates psycho-educational groups. Responsibilities include patient education, wellness checks, behavioral observations, compliance coaching, scheduling, documentation, and follow-up care under the supervision of a Behavioral Health Provider. Additional duties include assisting with behavioral interventions, crisis management, and maintaining electronic health records.

Minimum Requirements

• Associates degree in behavioral sciences or related field
• American Association of Psychiatric Technicians (AAPT) level three certification within 12 months
• Current CPR/BLS certification
• Two years of experience in mental health or residential healthcare
• Ability to pass background check and immunizations
• Knowledge of therapeutic communication, mental health screenings, and behavioral interventions
• Proficiency in electronic health records and Microsoft Office
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required

Physical Demands

• Physical exertion including standing, walking, bending, and lifting
• Respond promptly to medical emergencies
