Cognito LLC, a Planned Systems International (PSI) joint venture, is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician to support the ICE Health Services Corps (IHSC) at the Houston Contract Detention Facility in Houston, TX.

As a civilian contractor working for Cognito, you will utilize your abilities as a Behavioral Health Technician to provide the safe delivery of high-quality health care to those in ICE custody. The ICE Health Services Corps (IHSC) exists within the organizational structure of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) under the supervision of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The United States Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps Officers, civil service staff and contractors comprise the healthcare professionals working together to provide quality healthcare services. IHSC serves as the medical experts for ICE for detainee health care.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides mental health screenings, patient care management, and facilitates psycho-educational groups. Responsibilities include patient education, wellness checks, behavioral observations, compliance coaching, and documentation. The BHT collaborates with the Behavioral Health Provider (BHP) to monitor patient compliance and safety, and manages follow-up care.

  • Assist in providing direct services, health data collection, behavior observations, sleep checks, activities of daily living, and patient education under the supervision of a licensed BHP.
  • Maintain knowledge of behavioral health interventions and medications.
  • Facilitate therapeutic groups and provide individual education and care.
  • Gather patient information for diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Document clinical observations and perform wellness checks.
  • Manage crisis situations and conduct program scheduling.
  • Chaperone patients, record vital signs, and participate in professional development.
  • Adhere to standards and maintain proficiency in electronic health records.
Minimum Requirements
  • Associates degree in behavioral science or related field.
  • Certification: AAPT level three within 12 months, current BLS or CPR certification.
  • Two years of experience in mental health or residential healthcare.
  • Ability to pass background checks, immunizations, and drug screening.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic communication, mental health screening, and electronic records.
  • Proficiency in English, cultural awareness, and communication skills.

  • Ability to perform physical activities such as standing, walking, lifting, and responding to emergencies.
