Job summary

Concern Housing seeks a Behavioral Health Specialist to provide individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and supervision of Recovery Specialists within the Respite Program in East Patchogue. This role requires licensure and a Master’s degree, with a focus on documentation and compliance with NYSOMH regulations.

The successful candidate will conduct assessments, coordinate services, and support guests with daily living skills while adhering to program policies and schedules.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree and license in Psychology, Social Work or Mental Health Counseling plus 3 years experience in a similar setting.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to make sound judgments and assessments regarding client care.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counseling to program guests.

• Complete and maintain documentation (Pre-Registration Questionnaire, ISPs, assessments, discharge and follow-up).

Description

Concern Housing is seeking aBehavioral Health Specialist irs responsible toprovide individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, supervision to Recovery Specialists, linkages to community resources, documentation, and compliance with program requirements. The Behavioral Health Specialist is an essential resource and source of support to program guests experiencing acute crises.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides program guests with linkages to community resources and educates guests on alternative methods of coping skills that can be utilized during acute crises to reduce hospitalizations.


• Crisis intervention (Including On-Call responsibilities).


• Complete documentation such as Pre-Registration Questionnaire, Individual Service Plan, Functional Assessment, Discharge Plan, and Follow-up documentation. Daily meetings with guests assist with development of coping skills and review progress. Responsible for all documentation required for program guest record (e.g., progress notes, collateral contacts etc.).


• Provide individual and group counseling, recovery readiness and support services.


• Provide daily living skills training (e.g., medication monitoring and training, cleaning, money management, etc.).


• Compliance with NYSOMH regulations, data collection, and reporting requirements.


• Participate in program meetings, staff meetings and attend supervision regularly. Attend trainings provided by agency and outside sources as required.


• Converse with various shifts regarding any pertinent information (i.e. appointments, medication changes, overall guests’ behaviors, etc.) in communication log.


• Assists in the coordination of staff schedules, including Per Diem staff.


• Flexibility in scheduling according to program needs.


• Adherence to all policies and procedures as set forth in Concern’s employee manual.


• Remain current with all Agency required compliance documents and trainings.


• Other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator/Program Director.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree and license in Psychology, Social Work or Mental Health Counseling, plus 3 years experience working in a similar setting and/or working with people with mental illnesses. The individual in this position must have good verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to make sound judgments and assessments regarding client care.
