Job summary

Carilion Clinic is seeking a Behavioral Health Security Officer to provide security services across hospital units, with emphasis on de-escalation and patient care integration. The role supports Emergency and Psychiatry services, inpatient and ambulatory areas, and collaborates with clinical staff to maintain a safe environment.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a criminal justice-related degree preferred, and BLS certification. Sign-on bonus is eligible.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three (3) years in security or behavioral health; five (5) years in security/public safety preferred.
• BLS certification required.
• Certification in system required de-escalation tactics prior to orientation.
• Ability to work under pressure and in ambiguous situations; good judgment and assertiveness.

Responsibilities

• Provides security services to Carilion Clinic Health System and designated areas.
• Monitors safety and security of individuals within assigned areas.
• Establishes trust and calm presence as a healthcare team member.
• Responds to emergencies; may intervene verbally and physically when needed.
• Maintains visibility and de-escalates to prevent violence; supports bedside care as needed.
