Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital seeks a part-time Behavioral Health Safety Specialist to promote a safe environment for patients, families and staff. The role includes proactive safety rounds and assisting clinical staff with escalated patient behaviors using evidence-based de-escalation techniques.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in pediatric behavioral health.
• Training in de-escalation and aggression management required or ACH course within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a safety expert in patient care areas and ensure safety policies are followed.
• Perform continuous safety rounds and flag potential unsafe dynamics to staff.
• Develop supportive relationships with patients in line with treatment plans.
• Respond to requests for assistance with escalated or aggressive behaviors.
• Demonstrate proficiency in de-escalation techniques and crisis interventions.
• Assist in safety procedures including restraint under policy and training.
• Lead debriefings with staff after crises and provide feedback.
• Collaborate with Public Safety to maintain a safe treatment environment.
• Monitor patient behaviors and assist with early intervention as needed.
• Document safety encounters in the medical record.
• Perform other duties as required.
