Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital is seeking a caregiver for the 2nd shift (M-F, 2:00pm–10:30pm) with rotating weekends/holidays. You will perform safety rounds, identify at-risk patients, and respond to escalating incidents to maintain a secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and multiple years of experience in health care or related fields; associate’s degree and OPOTC security training are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Two years of experience in a behavioral health facility, corrections facility, healthcare facility, customer service field or other relevant experience.
• Associate’s degree preferred.
• Completion of private police training as approved by OPOTC (Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission) with Security Certification.

Responsibilities

• Offer continuous visibility and rounding throughout assigned areas to promote positive perception of safety for all patients, visitors and staff.
• Identify patients at risk and provide necessary clinical and security notifications.
• Attend to escalating incidents, identify issues and act to eliminate safety hazards.
• Assist in re-direction and de-escalation of patient situations, working to prevent aggressive behavior, seclusion and restraint by utilizing the least restrictive methods.
• Intervene in patient, visitor and/or staff confrontations as appropriate using the least restrictive methods.
• Assist staff with processing new admissions by assisting with safety search and inventory of belongings.
• Ensure all patients and visitors have been screened via magnetometer or wand as appropriate.
• Act as a first responder to patient threats of violence.
• Participate in safety rounds with Emergency Department and/or Behavioral Health Unit staff.
• Complete appropriate documentation of various incidents.
