If you're a Registered Nurse who thrives on building strong teams, developing clinical talent, and creating a culture of excellence while remaining connected to direct care, this may be the opportunity you've been looking for.The Center for Human Development (CHD) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Behavioral Health Nurse Supervisor (RN) to provide clinical and administrative leadership at Heron House, an innovative 18-bed Enhanced Medical Group Living Environment (EMGLE) program located in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts.

This position is ideal for a nurse leader who believes great outcomes start with strong teams. The successful candidate will combine clinical expertise, coaching, mentorship, and operational leadership to support a high-performing nursing team while ensuring exceptional care for residents with complex behavioral health and medical needs.This is a fully on-site leadership position that requires visibility, accessibility, and hands‑on support to staff. The Nurse Supervisor will model clinical excellence, help develop nursing talent, foster accountability, and contribute to a positive and collaborative workplace culture.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Flexibility is required to adjust hours based on program needs, staff support, training initiatives, clinical concerns, and operational demands. Participation in an on‑call rotation is required.

Position Summary

The Behavioral Health Nurse Supervisor serves as the primary nursing leader within the program and is responsible for overseeing nursing operations, clinical practice, staff development, and regulatory compliance and ensuring the delivery of high‑quality, person‑centered, trauma‑informed care.Reporting directly to the Program Director and receiving clinical support and consultation from the Division Director of Nursing, this position provides direct supervision, coaching, and oversight to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and designated support staff. The Nurse Supervisor is responsible for fostering a professional environment where staff are supported and developed.

Clinical Leadership

• Provide clinical oversight and direction for nursing services within the program.
• Ensure compliance with nursing standards, agency policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
• Support nursing staff in the assessment, monitoring, and treatment of residents' physical and behavioral health needs.
• Act as a clinical resource for staff managing complex medical and psychiatric presentations.
• Collaborate with physicians, pharmacies, hospitals, behavioral health providers, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care.
• Participate in clinical decision‑making and resident care planning.
• Provide direct hands‑on nursing support as needed to ensure quality care and safe program operations.
• Collaborate closely with the Program Director, LPHA, Director of Nursing, and interdisciplinary treatment team to ensure integrated and holistic support for residents.

Administrative Supervision

• Provide direct supervision to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and assigned support staff.
• Conduct regular supervision, performance coaching, and staff development activities.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and retention of nursing personnel.
• Assist with scheduling, staffing coordination, and workforce planning.
• Monitor staff performance and promote accountability for clinical and operational expectations.
• Address performance concerns in partnership with the Program Director and Human Resources.
• Foster effective communication and collaboration across all shifts.

Staff Development & Team Building

• Create a culture of learning, professional growth, and continuous improvement.
• Mentor and develop nursing staff through education, coaching, and skill‑building opportunities.
• Identify training needs and collaborate with leadership to strengthen staff knowledge, skills, and clinical practice.
• Build staff confidence through supportive leadership and accessible clinical guidance.
• Encourage teamwork, problem‑solving, and professional accountability.
• Promote a workplace environment where staff feel valued, supported, and empowered to provide excellent care.

Program Operations

• Oversee clinical workflows and operational processes to ensure efficiency and consistency.
• Monitor documentation standards, medication administration practices, and regulatory compliance.
• Serve as a liaison with hospitals, pharmacies, physician offices, and community partners to facilitate continuity of care and coordinated service delivery.
• Ensure timely completion of clinical documentation, incident reporting, and required regulatory records.
• Participate actively in interdisciplinary meetings, quality improvement initiatives, leadership discussions, and program development efforts.
• Support the Program Director in achieving program goals and maintaining excellence in service delivery.

Qualifications

Required

• Active Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
• Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience.
• Prior supervisory, charge nurse, team lead, or management experience.
• Experience working with individuals experiencing behavioral health, psychiatric, substance use, or complex medical needs.
• Strong communication, leadership, and coaching skills.

Preferred

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) or related field.
• Experience in community‑based behavioral health, residential, psychiatric, or long‑term care settings.
• Experience developing staff and leading teams through change and growth initiatives.

The annual salary for this position starts at $90,000 per year.
