Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking a Behavioral Health Navigator to support patients in the Emergency Department experiencing acute psychological distress. You will perform risk assessments, design crisis interventions, and connect patients with ongoing care resources.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in a mental health discipline.
• Massachusetts-licensed clinician (LICSW/LMHC) required.
• 3–5 years of clinical experience, preferably in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Conduits initial emergency interviews and diagnostic evaluations to determine level of care.
• Obtain collateral information from family, providers, police, and state agencies to support decision-making.
• Conduct re-evaluations and mental status updates and document according to state and insurance regulations.
• Submit EPIA forms to DMH to expedite inpatient admissions for those boarding in the ED for extended periods of time.
• Work collaboratively with Access Clinicians in coordinating patient dispositions and referrals.
• Provide patient and families with education on the inpatient bed search process.
• Facilitate meetings with outside agencies when necessary for discharge planning.
• Provide lower level of care referrals for patients who do not require an inpatient bed search (IOP, PHP, OP, MCI, etc.).
• Collaborate with ED physicians and nurses on patient care plans.
• Consult with ED psychiatrist and nurses during daily rounds.
• Document assessments, interventions, and plans in the EMR according to HIPPA, industry, and compliance standards.
• Complete insurance authorizations of inpatient psychiatric admissions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

A Behavioral Health Navigator plays a vital role in providing immediate and compassionate support to individuals presenting to the Emergency Department in acute psychological distress. This position requires a professional who is adept at performing risk assessments, developing crisis intervention strategies, and connecting patients with appropriate resources for ongoing care. RESPONSIBILITIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

• Master’s Degree or higher education in a mental health discipline.
• Independently licensed with a Massachusetts state issued clinical practice license (e.g., LICSW, LMHC).

EXPERIENCE:

• The Behavioral Health Navigator must have a solid foundation in mental health care, including 3-5 years of clinical experience (preferably in a hospital environment), relevant certifications, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of ethical practice.
• Additionally, successful candidates will possess excellent communication skills, resilience, and the capacity to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals in a high paced setting.

Pay Range:

$67,724.80-$111,716.80
