Job summary

East Central District Health Department/Good Neighbor Community Health Center is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patient care under the supervision of a nurse or provider. The role includes preparing exam rooms, assisting with referrals, chart preparation, and accurate entry of provider orders into the EHR.

Responsibilities cover patient greeting, vital signs, immunizations, routine procedures, and clerical duties; strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Basic Life Support certification required.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
• Ability to work well with diverse backgrounds.
• Preferred: Certified Medication Aide License.
• Preferred: Current CNA License.
• Preferred: Phlebotomy certification or MA experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of universal precautions in medical safety practices.
• Previous hospital/clinic/physician office experience preferred.
• Bi-lingual preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the provider by facilitating patient and information flow through phases of the patient visit.
• Review daily schedule and prepare EHR.
• Greet and escort patient to exam room in a professional and confidential manner.
• Obtain purpose of visit, vital signs and document in the EHR.
• Inform provider of abnormal readings or significant deviations.
• Perform routine procedures per Provider's order (EKG, PPD reading, ear lavage, peak flow, vision screening, audiometry, etc.).
• Administer immunizations and injections under direct supervision of a RN or Provider with active Medication Aide License.
• Clean exam rooms after each patient visit.
• Assist with scheduling of follow-up procedures or necessary referrals.
• Maintain patient care equipment and notify supervisor of repair requirement.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
