The full-time Behavioral Health Counselor (BHC) will provide individual, family, and parent management treatment in an outpatient multidisciplinary program targeting children/youth with mental health issues and Problematic Sexual Behaviors (PSBs) and their families. The program serves three populations: 1. children/youth with sexually inappropriate behaviors involving intrafamilial victims, 2. children/youth with behaviors involving extrafamilial victims, and 3. children/youth with self-focused and exhibitionistic problematic sexual behaviors. Treatment involves caregivers actively and may be delivered in-office or via telehealth, using evidence-based, developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed approaches. Caregiver involvement includes weekly sessions and strategy support.
The BHC will assess, treat, and monitor these children/youth and their families, addressing broad targets such as treatment motivation, trauma history, social skills, affect regulation, and family communication. Methods may include child skills training, psychotherapy, parent training, medication, and school consultation. Data collection involves interviews, self-report measures, and collateral sources.
The BHC will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including the Allegheny County Office of Children, Youth and Families, Family and Juvenile Court, and other agencies. Responsibilities include organizing multidisciplinary meetings, attending court-referred treatment sessions, working a flexible schedule (3-4 evenings/week), and providing case management, supervision, and administrative support. The role requires maintaining professional standards, providing court testimony when needed, and supporting staff training and program operations.
Qualifications include a Master’s degree in Psychology, Child Development, Social Work, or related fields, with preferred experience in clinical settings, trauma, sexual abuse, and behavioral therapies. Licensure or certification such as Behavior Specialist Licensure, BCBA, or similar is preferred, along with certifications like Crisis Management and Child Abuse Reporting.
