Job summary

State of Georgia’s Department of Community Supervision seeks a Behavioral Health Counselor I in Athens, GA. Responsibility includes counseling individuals under probation or parole, coordinating services for housing, education, employment, mental health, and life skills.

Travel and non-traditional hours may be required. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in counseling or related field and addiction-counselor certification or equivalent credentialing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in counseling or a related field from an accredited college or university.
• Certification as an addiction counselor from the Georgia Addiction Counselors Association (GACA) or equivalent certification.
• Credentialing (LPC, CADC/CAC, LCSW) or similar credentials preferred.

Responsibilities

• Counsel with emphasis on prevention and/or behavior modification for individuals under supervision.
• Coordinate identified services addressing employment, housing, education, mental health, life skills, and substance use.
• Collect information about individuals through assessments, interviews, observations and screenings.
• Conduct individual and group counseling to develop coping skills and recovery.
• Develop and implement treatment plans and maintain confidentiality of records.
• Monitor progress and document case notes and reports per goals.
• Facilitate programming and trainings; may require non-traditional hours and travel.
