Responsibilities

• Provides direct and indirect patient care under the direction of a registered nurse.
• Provides for the personal care and comfort of psychiatric patients.
• Provides a safe, clean environment.
• Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities.
• Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
• Conducts a full client inventory in the Intake area.
• Gives report to the nurse and tech picking up client in the Intake area.
• Does not leave the client unattended at any time.
• Identifies contraband and disposes of it appropriately.
• Identifies if client has brought home medications and coordinates with nurse/family.
• Orient patient and family to BHR processes and unit routines.
• Assists on units between admissions coordinating with the Intake Department.
• Takes admission vital signs and records on Nursing Assessment Form.
• Performs and records patient vital signs and intake/output; notifies RN of changes.
• Provides general nursing care like transferring patients and assisting with ADLs.
• Observes patients' behavior and mental status; notifies RN of changes.
• Demonstrates ability to set limits and de-escalate as needed.
• Orients new staff and assists with therapeutic groups under RN direction.
• Communicates appropriately to Nurse Manager, RNs and physicians.
• Participates in patient care conferences.
