Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited school of nursing required. BSN preferred.
• Current registered nurse’s license in the State of Texas
• Current BLS certification.
• Accepts assignment to any behavioral health unit
• CPI training within 30 days of hire date
• Computer skills required to be effective on assigned units
• Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Ability to read, write and speak English
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians
• Prefer hospital experience

Responsibilities

• Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
• Ensures care is delivered to each patient in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act of Texas and ANA Standards.
• Performs nursing care using sound judgment.
• Implements physician orders in a safe and accurate manner.
• Assists with admitting, discharging and transferring patients.
• Transcribes and implements new physician orders.
• Adapts to unit needs with flexibility and adaptability.
• Maintains detailed and accurate records of nursing actions.
• Provides education and emotional support for patients and families.
• Maintains a safe and clean environment; provides reports at shift changes.
• Administers medication and therapies within safe nursing practice.

Education

Graduate of accredited school of nursing

BSN preferred

Current Texas RN license

Current BLS certification

CPI training within 30 days of hire

Computer skills

English reading/writing/speaking

Effective written and verbal communication

Cultural and bilingual sensitivity

Hospital experience preferred
