Job summary

Brown University Health in Fall River, MA is seeking a Behavioral Health Attendant to ensure a safe environment for high-risk patients requiring constant observation. You will remain with patients, report changes to the RN, and maintain confidentiality while following facility policies.

Responsibilities include documenting observations, assisting with mobility, and ensuring safety during all activities. On-the-job training is provided and prior hospital experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• No experience required; on-the-job training provided.
• Experience in hospital or nursing home setting is a plus.
• Good oral and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to document pertinent information by writing or typing.
• Strong critical thinking and interpersonal skills for patient care.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant observation of the patient, facing the patient at all times.
• Do not leave the patient unattended, including when visitors are present.
• Do not leave the assignment without RN approval and relief.
• Receive, review, and discuss the RN's report detailing any special needs.
• Immediately report observed changes in behavior or condition to the duty nurse.
• Inform the RN of patient complaints related to health.
• Call the appropriate code if needed.
• Assist with ambulation and safe mobilization for bathroom needs.
• Conduct room safety sweeps and remove hazardous items when possible.
• Monitor applied restraints for safety and comfort.
• Assist in dressing and undressing the patient and secure belongings.
• Maintain professional appearance and avoid neck items that could be weapons.
• Document all observations on the patient safety sheet within timeframes.
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
• Communicate empathetically with patients and refer complaints to the RN.
• Refer unresolved complaints to the patient advocate.
• Refrain from discussing medical condition or plan of care with patients.
• Greet the patient and introduce yourself at the start of each assignment.
• Remain dedicated to observing the patient throughout the shift.
• Do not bring personal items into the room.
• Maintain infection prevention standards.
• Maintain personal and professional boundaries at all times.
