Job summary

Brown University Health is hiring a Behavioral Health Attendant to maintain a safe environment by continuously observing high-risk patients and reporting to the overseeing RN. Role requires strict adherence to safety protocols, professional interaction, and confidentiality throughout the shift.

Responsibilities include documentation, patient assistance for mobility, room safety, and seamless coordination with nursing staff.

Qualifications

• Must have good oral and written communication in English.
• Ability to document pertinent information accurately.
• Strong critical thinking and interpersonal skills for patient care.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant observation of the patient, facing the patient at all times.
• Do not leave the patient unattended, including during visitors.
• Do not leave the assignment without RN approval and relief.
• Receive, review, and discuss the RN's report detailing special needs.
• Report changes in patient's behavior or condition to the duty nurse.
• Inform RN of patient health complaints.
• Call the appropriate code if needed.
• Assist with ambulation and mobility as needed for bathroom needs.
• Conduct room safety sweeps per policy.
• Monitor restraints for safety and comfort.
• Assist in dressing/undressing and secure belongings per standards.
• Maintain professional appearance and avoid risky accessories.
• Document observations on patient safety sheet within timeframes.
• Ensure confidentiality and discuss patient info only with assigned staff.
• Communicate empathetically with patients and refer complaints to RN.
• Refer unresolved complaints to patient advocate.
• Refrain from discussing medical condition with patients outside care plan.
• Greet patients and introduce yourself at each assignment.
• Remain dedicated to observing the patient throughout shift.
• Do not bring personal items into the room.
• Maintain infection prevention standards.
• Maintain personal and professional boundaries.
