Job Description

The Patient Access Coordinator under the direction of the Patient Access Supervisor. Ensures that the services provided within the area of responsibility to meet or exceed the MUSC Access Performance Quality Goals as set forth by the PATH Vital Signs Scorecard. The coordinator is responsible for establishment and maintaining a professional business relationship with their designated clinical partners. The coordinator is the subject matter expert of clinic business operations, such as locations, operating hours, providers’ specialties and schedules. The coordinator promotes open and informative communication within area of responsibility and with coordinating areas within the outpatient clinics.

Education:

High school diploma and three years related healthcare experience

or an Associates degree and two years related healthcare experience

or

a Bachelor's degree and one year healthcare related experience.

  • Epic, Medical Office experience, call center experience, medical terminology and knowledge of insurance preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Must have expertise in MS Outlook and must understand meeting and calendar functions.
  • Organizational, time management, problem solving skills required.
  • Must have the proven ability to schedule and coordinate complex follow up appointments and ensure accuracy; excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills required; highly detail oriented; ability to exercise good judgment in decision-making. Ability to work efficiently and effectively under deadline pressures and to simultaneously handle multiple assignments and projects with speed and accuracy; professional maturity; high degree of honesty, integrity and confidentiality; ability to work with individuals in a tactful diplomatic manner that enhances the image of the office.

Certified Healthcare Access Associate, Certified Revenue Cycle Representative or Administrative Professional Certification Preferred.

(C) Ability to perform fine manipulation with fingers and hands. (C) Ability to reach overhead. (F) Ability to perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders. (C) Ability to fully use both legs. (C) Ability to use lower extremities for balance and coordination. (F) Ability to reach in all directions. (C) Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted. (I) Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted. (I) Ability to lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. (I) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (F) Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that can not assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain vision 20/40 corrected. (C) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (C) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (C) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (C) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (C) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (C) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (C) Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations. (C) Ability to work rotating shifts. (F) Ability to work overtime as required. (F) Ability to work in a latex safe environment. (C) *Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions.
