Job Description

Behavioral Health Aides care for clients in the group home setting of our Acute Care Services locations. The goal of this position is to help with reintegration, teach living skills, and partner with the therapeutic team to ensure treatment care plan is followed. Our BHAs will learn proper documentation techniques and other state/federal standards followed by the Alabama Department of Mental Health, earn certifications in their trainings, and create a path forward with a career in Mental Health. This is a PRN position for weekend work only, mainly nights.

Responsibilities
  • Provide consistent instruction, guidance, encouragement, and reinforcement to clients committed to the Crisis Stabilization Unit.
  • Implement basic living skills training objectives and document resident’s progress in a timely manner in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Coordinate activities, conduct group therapy, document client’s progress, and maintain electronic documentation in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with the Treatment Team.
  • Complete documentation of staff notes, incident reports, injury reports, shift observations, and other reports accurately and timely.
  • May be required to lift approximately 50 lbs.
  • Ensure clients comply with rules, maintain a clean and safe environment including housekeeping, and assist clients where necessary.
  • Demonstrate good safety skills including fire drills, emergency procedures, and back safety techniques.
  • Promote a positive work environment, fostering positive relationships with supervisors, clients and their families, and co‑workers.
  • Administer medication under supervision and document it.
  • Attend staff meetings, in‑service meetings, trainings as required and remain current on all trainings and certifications.
  • Work scheduled shifts, correctly complete and submit timesheets and leave requests in a timely manner.
  • Report any facility or maintenance issues in a timely fashion and assist in the maintenance/housekeeping of the facility and equipment.
  • Perform verbal and, at times, physical de‑escalation techniques as required, in addition to crisis interventions.
  • Report to work on time, remain on shift if unable to be relieved, and coordinate coverage with other Behavioral Aides for dates unable to report to work, such as annual or sick leave requests.
  • May have to escort/guard clients who are sent to the hospital for evaluation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Familiar with Computer/Microsoft Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Certified in (or ability to obtain) CPR and SAMA.
