Job summary

Perry Township Schools seeks a Behavior Tech paraprofessional to support students with social, emotional, or developmental needs. You will implement individualized plans, provide one-on-one or small group supports, and reinforce positive behaviors within general education settings.

Role involves tracking behavior data, applying ABA methods, and assisting teachers with CPI de-escalation strategies. Must be prepared for 8-hour days, 183 days per year in Indianapolis, IN.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor’s in psychology, education or social work preferred.
  • Prefer RBT certification or 40 hours of RBT training; CPI certification required once hired.
  • Experience with ABA or behavior support is preferred; able to implement ABA-based strategies.
  • Ability to track behavior data and apply ABA techniques like reinforcement and prompting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support for students with autism/ADHD to help integration in general education.
  • Reinforce positive behaviors, support transitions, and implement de-escalation strategies.
  • Track progress and collect data (ABC charts) to adjust treatment plans.
  • Adapt worksheets to meet individual learning needs.
  • Guide students using verbal, visual or physical prompts; support communication needs.
  • Share insights during IEP team meetings; assist with CPI-based crisis interventions.

Job description

Position Purpose

The Behavior Tech is a specialized paraprofessional who works under AP to implement individualized education and behavior intervention plans for students facing social, emotional, or developmental challenges.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provides one-on-one or small group support for students with diagnoses like autism or ADHD to help them integrate into general education classrooms.
  • Reinforces positive behaviors, supporting transitions, and implementing de-escalation strategies using evidence-based techniques.
  • Tracks progress and collects behavioral data so teachers can modify and improve treatment plans.
  • Adapts worksheets or assignments to match the student\'s learning needs.
  • Guides students through teacher instructions using verbal, visual or physical prompts.
  • Teaches coping mechanisms, turn-taking and emotional regulation
  • Trains students to express their needs with communication cards, devices, or speech.
  • Shares insights during IEP team meetings
  • Crisis Intervention: Safely manages severe behaviors like aggression or self-injury using approved CPI protocols
  • Teacher Consultation: Briefs classroom teachers on specific triggers and successful de-escalation techniques.
Equipment

Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copier and fax machines, calculator, and telephone. May also use adaptive equipment for student support.

Travel Requirements

Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Pay Rate

$30.00

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Proficiency in tracking behavior frequency, duration and ABC charting.
  • Solid understanding of ABA principles like reinforcement, prompting and shaping.
  • Ability to recognize behavior triggers and defuse tense or aggressive situations calmly.

Experience
  • Prefer candidate with ABA or RBT training or certification
