Behavior Technicians/Therapists work with individuals with autism spectrum disorders or other special needs, providing one-to-one behavior treatment in the client’s home, school, community, and/or clinic settings. They utilize principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA), such as reinforcement and prompting, to teach clients adaptive behaviors in developmental areas including language, socialization, play, self-help, and motor skills. They implement behavior modification techniques, like differential reinforcement of alternative behaviors (DRA), to reduce problem behaviors. Additionally, they may train parents/caregivers on implementing behavior intervention plans, take detailed data on skills and behaviors, and communicate with supervisors about treatment progress. They also attend team meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
This position is also known as ABA Tutor, ABA Technician, ABA Therapist, Behavior Therapist, RBT, or Behavior Instructor.
