Job summary

Qualifications

Job Description

Barre Town Middle and Elementary School seeks a behavior specialist to assist teachers (and other school staff) in providing classroom and behavioral supports for students who struggle with social, emotional, and challenging behaviors. Our behavior specialist will work out of our Student Support Center with middle school students and will become an integral part of our student support team, as well as assist in the collection of student data.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting students to be able to meet school expectations.
  • Conducting student observations.
  • Developing, implementing, and supporting Behavior Intervention Plans for students.
  • Reviewing student behavior progress and data.
  • Supporting teachers and staff in settings where students are presenting challenging behaviors.
  • Communicating with teachers and staff around changes in behavior plans or interventions for individual students.
  • Collaborating with staff to support students' behavioral challenges and address issues as they come up to best support the students in the program.
  • Communicating with parents and families about their child’s individual behavior plan at school.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) or equivalent with a concentration in psychology, counseling, mental health, BCBA, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • An educator's license is not required for this role.
  • Proven ability to communicate and work effectively and respectfully with students, faculty/staff, parents, administrators, and the community is required.
  • Understanding of and proven experience with systemic improvement and successful change models.
  • Handle with Care certification, preferred (ability to train if needed).
  • Please include three written letters of recommendation.
