Job summary

Belmont University is seeking Student Employees to support GED preparation for adult learners in a classroom setting. Positions are offered for evening sessions at multiple Belmont locations around Nashville, with hourly compensation and Federal Work-Study eligibility.

Qualified applicants will assist in Math, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, or Science and maintain weekly logs, building relationships with students and supporting childcare activities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Applicants MUST have Federal Work-Study to be considered.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Applicant must have computer and access to the internet.
  • Ability to explain Math and/or English to adult students.

  • Assist adult students in a classroom setting with preparation for the High School Equivalency (GED) test in one of five subjects: Math, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Science.
  • Update each student’s weekly work log indicating subject areas studied and next steps.
  • Develop relationships with students.
  • Assist Childcare Coordinator with Story Time and Play Time.
  • May include infant care including feeding, diapering, etc.
  • May include assisting the Program Manager in class set up for the evening.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assist adult students in a classroom setting with preparation for the High School Equivalency (GED) test in one of five subjects: Math, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Science. Instruction is one-on-one or in a small group. Tutors can request a subject they are most comfortable instructing in, and teaching materials with answer keys are provided by the Program Manager.
  • Update each student’s weekly work log indicating subject areas studied and next steps.
  • Develop relationships with students.
  • Assist Childcare Coordinator with Story Time and Play Time.
  • May include infant care including feeding, diapering, etc.
  • May include assisting the Program Manager in class set up for the evening.
Positions are open in
  • Franklin on Tuesday and Thursday evenings
  • Madison on Monday and Thursday evenings
  • Crievewood on Tuesday and Thursday evenings
  • Woodbine area on Monday and Thursday evenings
Required Qualifications

Applicants MUST have Federal Work-Study in order to be considered.

MUST have reliable means of transportation.

Applicant must have computer and access to the internet.

Ability to explain Math and/or English to adult students.

Required Education

Must be enrolled as a current student at Belmont University.

Required Experience

Previous tutoring experience a plus, but not mandatory. Training and resources will be provided to you by the Program Manager and/or Children’s Program Coordinator.
