LEARN LA invites applications for Before School Youth Leader or Youth Leader Substitute positions at multiple elementary/middle schools in the El Monte, CA area. The role runs 6:15am–9:15am on weekdays, supporting 20 students with academic, enrichment and recreational activities.

Ideal candidates are flexible, with a passion for mentoring at-risk youth, and may have experience in education settings. Bilingual language skills are a plus; commitment to safety and positive role modeling is

Qualifications

Graduation from High School; passing district exam for Instructional Assistants or two years of college coursework.
Two years of college coursework is equivalent to 60 units and helpful for the role.
Experience working with youth in educational settings is strongly desired.

Responsibilities

Supervise and ensure safety of assigned students during program hours.
Lead and engage students in academic, recreational, and enrichment activities.
Provide instruction using curricular resources and materials provided by LEARN.
Provide small-group tutoring and homework assistance.
Be a positive adult role model; maintain punctuality and program setup/breakdown.
Promote positive interactions and communicate student needs to coordinators and teachers.
Ensure program policies and daily requirements are met; perform other duties as assigned.
