Job summary

Seattle YMCA is hiring a part‑time BASE instructor to guide elementary students through sports, arts, STEM, and hands‑on learning after school. You will foster teamwork, social-emotional learning, and skill-building while ensuring a safe, enjoyable environment at multiple elementary sites.

The role starts 8/24 and offers on-site hours with varying times by location. This position requires 16+ years old (18+ preferred), TB/MMR clearance, and completion of required trainings.

Qualifications

• 16 years of age or older, 18 or older is preferred.
• 1-2 years’ experience with children; camps, childcare, tutoring, or nannying.
• Ability to model and demonstrate Y values: caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
• Experience planning and implementing group activities.
• TB tests and MMR vaccination completed; Concentra options offered at no cost.
• Completion of minimum STARS required training, CPR/First Aid Training; background checks.

• Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide for a positive experience for each child.

• Professionally communicates day‑to‑day, confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including medical and disciplinary procedures, abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
• Assists in maintaining developmentally appropriate site including appearance, décor and cleanliness of site.
• May prepare and serve snacks; cleans snack area.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

In this role, you will guide elementary age participants through sports, arts, STEM, and other hands‑on learning activities at a Y Before and After‑School Enrichment (BASE) program which is designed to provide a safe and caring place for students outside of the classroom. You will help teach teamwork and social emotional learning to kids as they grow and learn all while encouraging skill building, creative exploration, physical activity, and most of all, fun.

BASE instructors will start 8/24.

Hiring for the following Locations

Westgate Elementary, Chase Lake Elementary, Sherwood Elementary, College Place Elementary

*This is a Part-Time Onsite Position.

Hours Vary by School/Location:
Monday – Friday 6:45am – Start of School
Monday – Friday End of School – 6pm

The Y provides full day programming on non‑school days and early release days.

This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Qualifications

What we're looking for in an applicant
