Job summary

YMCA of Greater Seattle is seeking part-time BASE instructors to guide elementary students in sports, arts, STEM and hands-on activities at multiple Seattle-area schools. Start date around 8/24; hours vary by location, typically 6:45am to start and after school to 6pm, with full-day options on non-school days.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Implements developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum aligned with Youth Development goals.
• Supervises a group of children to ensure health, safety and a positive experience.
• Provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing activities.
• Communicate day-to-day information with parents/guardians.
• Follow YMCA policies, including safety, abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
• Maintain site appearance, décor and cleanliness; assist with snacks and cleanup.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings; perform other duties as assigned.

Hiring Range: $21.30-22.50/hr DOE

In this role, you will guide elementary age participants through sports, arts, STEM, and other hands‑on learning activities at a Y Before and After‑School Enrichment (BASE) program which is designed to provide a safe and caring place for students outside of the classroom. You will help teach teamwork and social emotional learning to kids as they grow and learn all while encouraging skill building, creative exploration, physical activity, and most of all, fun.

BASE instructors will start 8/24.

Hiring for the following Locations

West Seattle Elementary, Roxhill Elementary, Concord Elementary, Boren STEM K-8, Arbor Heights Elementary, Fairmount Park Elementary

This is a Part‑Time Onsite Position.

Hours Vary by School/Location:

Monday - Friday 6:45am - Start of School

Monday - Friday End of School - 6pm

The Y provides full day programming on non-school days and early release days.

Responsibilities

What you'll be doing

• Implements culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum in accordance with the Youth Development goals of the YMCA.
• Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide for a positive experience for each child.
• May provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children.
• Professionally communicates day-to-day, confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
• Assists in maintaining developmentally appropriate site including appearance, décor and cleanliness of site.
• May prepare and serve snacks. Cleans snack area.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Qualifications

What we're looking for in an applicant

• At hire, or during onboarding for position.

• Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
• Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
