Responsibilities

• Ensure safety and well-being of children in the after-school program.
• Monitor activities to maintain a safe, positive environment.
• Assist in managing student behavior per program guidelines.
• Facilitate games, arts and crafts, and enrichment activities under staff guidance.
• Encourage student participation and engagement in all activities.
• Supervise during program hours: arrival, snack, activities, dismissal.
• Prepare materials, set up activities, and handle post-activity cleanup.
• Provide homework help and academic support as needed.
• Encourage good study habits and a positive attitude toward learning.
• Communicate effectively with staff, students, and parents.
• Report issues to After School Program Director promptly.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Currently enrolled in a high school.
• Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and be in good conduct standing with the school district.
• Valid Adult and Child First AID/CPR/AED certificate issued by the American Heart Association or American Red cross.
• Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior experience in babysitting, tutoring, or volunteering with children.
• Bilingual/biliterate in a minimum of one target language such as Spanish, French, Creole, Portuguese, or other language.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of emergency protocols, first aid, and general safety guidelines relevant to children.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous tasks.
• Ability to work well with young children grades Pre-K through 5th.
• Ability to think critically and make clear, well-reasoned and timely decisions.
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and environments.
• Ability to remain patient and understanding when working with children of different ages and backgrounds.
• Ability to motivate and inspire students to participate and engage in program activities.
