Job summary

Metro Nashville Public Schools is hiring a Program Assistant for Before and After School Programs. You will supervise Pre-K through 4th grade students and help create a safe, engaging learning environment after school hours.

The role supports academic enrichment, tutoring, and activities aligned with core objectives, while following district policies. This is a 10-month, part-time position requiring strong communication, teamwork, and commitment to student growth.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with children in educational, childcare, youth development settings.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families and staff.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Knowledge of child development principles and engagement strategies.
• Familiarity with childcare regulations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and engage students during before- and after-school programming.
• Support instructional activities and program implementation under Site Supervisor.
• Provide individual and small-group tutoring to reinforce academic objectives.
• Support diverse learners including English Language Learners and those with disabilities.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive environment by following district policies and procedures.
• Monitor student behavior and ensure safety protocols are followed.
• Prepare lesson materials and activity spaces for programming.
• Facilitate activities that promote academic growth, creativity, health, wellness, and social-emotional learning.
• Participate in professional development, meetings and training activities.
• Model best practices in youth development and grant-funded program implementation.

The Program Assistant works directly with students in Pre-K through 4th grade, helping create a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment. This role assists with academic enrichment, student supervision, and the implementation of educational and recreational activities that promote the whole child's development. This is a 10-month work schedule.

Job Responsibilities

What You'll Do

• Supervise and engage students during before and after school programming.
• Support instructional activities and program implementation under the guidance of the Site Supervisor.
• Provide individual and small-group tutoring to reinforce academic standards and learning objectives.
• Support diverse learners, including English Language Learners and students with physical, developmental, or learning disabilities.
• Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive environment by following all district, state, and federal policies and procedures.
• Monitor student behavior and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
• Prepare lesson materials, classroom displays, equipment, and activity spaces.
• Facilitate activities that promote academic growth, creativity, health and wellness, and social-emotional learning.
• Participate in required professional development, meetings, and training activities.
• Model best practices in youth development, instruction, and grant-funded program implementation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

• Experience working with children in an educational, childcare, youth development, or early childhood setting required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
