Missouri State University is seeking BearFit Fitness Instructors to lead group fitness classes for students, staff, and faculty at the Springfield Campus. Instructors provide aerobic instruction, ensure safe techniques, and adapt teaching methods to varied skill levels.
Ideal candidates have basic fitness knowledge, strong communication and leadership skills, and are prepared to meet department training requirements, including CPR/AED and First Aid certifications within 30 days of employment.

BearFit Instructors run the daily activities of the group fitness classes: Provide aerobic instruction to MSU students, staff, and faculty. Utilize safe and correct techniques, while incorporating a variety of teaching methods. Instructors must continuously educate themselves on current practices and trends and be willing meet to discuss.
BearFit Fitness Instructors are student employees and must meet all University requirements to work on campus. Applicants should have basic knowledge in the fitness area and the types of classes they are teaching. Preferred applicants must be knowledgeable of exercise safety guidelines and practical exercise instruction, so risk management can be practiced. Dependent upon experience, some candidates may also need to successfully complete a practical exam with the Assistant Director of Fitness. Within 4 months of hire, a group fitness instructor must have attended 3 practical trainings within the department and acquire certification from an NCCA (National Commission for Certifying Agencies) approved organization, i.e. –AFAA, ACE , or ACSM / NASM , in order to continue employment. BearFit Group Fitness instructors achieve Levels of expertise by attending practical trainings and acquiring additional nationally-recognized and NCAA -approved certifications. Applicants must also have good communication, organization, and leadership skills; have the ability to effectively manage several tasks simultaneously.
You are required to complete the University Compliance Training on My Learning Connection:
Preventing Sexual Misconduct (Title IX) and Preventing Discrimination and Harassment. This training must be completed within 30 days of employment to remain on the work schedule. If you have been employed previously with the University and have completed this training, please provide copies of the certificates when completing your new hire paperwork. Campus Security Authority ( CSA ) training will be assigned, depending on your position with Campus Recreation.
Campus Recreation requires CPR / AED and First Aid Certifications for most positions, within 30 days of employment to remain on work schedule. Attendance at meetings, including department wide student staff training(s) prior to the fall and spring semesters and functional area monthly meetings is mandatory. Meetings include department updates and risk management in-service. Risk Management Audits are preformed throughout the semester to ensure skills required for CPR / AED and First Aid certifications are proficient.
