Job summary

Missouri State University’s Campus Recreation is seeking BearFit Fitness Instructors to lead group fitness classes for MSU students, staff, and faculty. Instructors provide aerobic instruction, ensure safe techniques, and continually learn current practices while meeting departmental safety standards.

Typical hours include morning, midday, and weeknights with some weekend sessions. Instructors must complete mandatory compliance trainings within 30 days and obtain CPR/AED and First Aid

Qualifications

• BearFit Instructors must have basic knowledge in fitness and the classes they teach.
• Candidates should be knowledgeable of exercise safety guidelines and practical instruction.
• Within 4 months, group fitness instructors must complete 3 trainings and obtain a national NCAA-approved certification (e.g. AFAA, ACE, ACSM/NASM).

Responsibilities

• Greet participants in class and set up equipment for class to begin.
• Provide aerobic and exercise instruction for a group of patrons with varied skill levels.
• Prepare a warm-up, exercise portion, and cool down for each class.
• Encourage and communicate with patrons during class.
• Keep fitness studios clean and patrons wipe down equipment after use.
• Stay updated on new fitness information and safety guidelines.
• Work cooperatively with other instructors.
• Attend all required meetings.
