Job summary

University of Chicago invites applications for a Research Assistant Professor to join ChemMatCARS at PME. The Beamline Scientist will originate scientific research and engage in collaborations, developing new techniques and supporting ongoing synchrotron studies.

The appointment is up to three years with renewal possible, starting around January 1, 2027, and is benefits-eligible, offering health, retirement, and paid time off through the university.

Qualifications

• PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biophysics, Materials Science, or related field.
• A minimum of five years, beyond PhD training, conducting independent experimental research at a synchrotron x-ray facility.
• Must be able to fulfill requirements for access to Argonne National Laboratory and the Advanced Photon Source.

Responsibilities

• Originate scientific research and engage in scientific collaborations.
• Develop new techniques for synchrotron studies.
• Support existing synchrotron radiation studies at ChemMatCARS.
