Job summary

Argonne National Laboratory's eBERlight group within the APS X-ray Science Division seeks an assistant beamline scientist to support biological and environmental research at the IMG beamlines (2-BM, 7-BM, 32-ID).

Responsibilities include developing R&D activities, designing synchrotron instrumentation, user operation and mentoring students. PhD required; experience with X-ray CT and data analysis is essential.

Qualifications

• PhD in physics, chemistry, biology, environmental science or related field.
• Knowledge of X-ray methods, particularly computed tomography and relevant software.
• Proficiency in software tools for advanced data analysis and image segmentation.
• Expertise in designing customized in situ/operando sample environments.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with diverse teams.

Responsibilities

• Developing R&D activities for synchrotron instrumentation and experiments.
• Conceiving, designing and implementing instrumentation and experiments.
• User operation and support for beamline users.
• Coordinating engineers and support staff on projects.
• Reporting progress and results; mentoring students and engaging in outreach.
• Coordinating cross-facility projects; other duties as assigned.
